Macau to Hengqin — drive times
Macau Airport to Hengqin Port
About 11 km, roughly 20 minutes by road, border queue not included. Macau Airport is on Cotai, and the run to Hengqin Port goes by way of the Lotus Bridge approach — the shortest line between Macau and Hengqin.
Cotai hotels to Hengqin Port
About 7 km, roughly 12 minutes. The Cotai hotel strip is the closest part of Macau to Hengqin Port, which is why most Hengqin pickups start there.
Macau Peninsula (Portas do Cerco) to Hengqin Port
About 19 km, roughly 22 minutes: the drive crosses from the peninsula to Cotai before heading for the port, so city traffic matters more than distance on this leg.
Hengqin Port to Hengqin Island (Chimelong side)
About 9 km, roughly 14 minutes. Once through the port, Hengqin Island and the Chimelong resort area are a short drive away.
Why the border, not the distance, sets the schedule
Macau to Hengqin is only about eleven kilometres. What takes the time is clearance and the handover on each side: passengers clear on foot while the vehicle clears separately. We plan both sides together so the group is met immediately after clearance.
How clearance works at Hengqin Port
Joint inspection, one release
On 18 August 2020 Macau's Lotus checkpoint moved into the Macau-side area of Hengqin Port and the new passenger terminal opened. Passengers queue once, present one document and complete one biometric check to satisfy both sides, cutting average passenger clearance to about 20 seconds.
Vehicle lanes
Passenger cars and goods vehicles use 30 “joint one-stop” lanes that opened on 18 March 2024: details are captured once and both sides release together, cutting average vehicle clearance from about 8 minutes to under 100 seconds, with the fastest runs around 50 seconds.
The more-than-nine-seat rule
Under Macau's rules, vehicles with a seating capacity of more than nine may not generally carry passengers through the vehicle lanes unless approval is granted in advance. Coach groups therefore clear on foot at the passenger terminal, and our vehicles meet them on both sides — one of the reasons a coach group needs a coordinated handover.
Recent facilitation measures
From 18 August 2026 the HZMB, Hengqin and Qingmao cooperation checkpoints introduced further facilitation measures, and eligible foreign nationals and Taiwan residents can drive through the Hengqin one-stop lanes after registering for fast-track clearance. If your group intends to drive through, register before you travel.
