Case 1 · Inbound business group: Futian Port to Guangzhou, 12 pax
12 passengers, heavy luggage, one 28-seat minibus, Shenzhen Futian Port → Guangzhou Chigang. Medium coaches are not allowed to enter the road in front of Futian Port and cannot pick up or drop off at the terminal door. The coach waits in the outer car park; passengers clear immigration with their own luggage and walk to the vehicle. At Chigang metro exit C1 a coach cannot stop at the exit itself, so loading and unloading happens at the Chigang bus-station bays nearby.
Why a 28-seater for 12 people? Seating was never the issue — luggage was. As a rule of thumb, one large suitcase takes up about the space of 1.5 passengers, so 12 passengers with 12 large cases is really an 18-passenger load. A 28-seat minibus takes the whole group and all the baggage in the hold in one go.
Case 2 · Youth dance competition: Dongguan Nancheng to Foshan, 26 pax
26 passengers (dancers plus teachers), one 28-seat minibus with two spare seats, Dongguan Nancheng → Foshan Youth Palace. The group carried costumes, dance props and make-up cases — bulky, non-stackable items. Everything travelled in the luggage hold: the aisle of a passenger vehicle is an escape route and may not be used for storage.
Both stops had parking limits. The training centre entrance is a morning drop-off hotspot, so loading happened at a legal short-stay bay nearby — arrive, load, leave. The Youth Palace main gate is congested on competition days, so the drop-off point was a nearby car park or bus bay, with the team arriving early enough to walk over and still make registration.
Case 3 · HSR station pickup: Yiwu, 12 pax, 12 large suitcases
12 passengers, 12 × 28-inch suitcases, Yiwu HSR station → a city hotel. The vehicle booked was a 15-seat business van: seats were fine, luggage space was not. Twelve 28-inch hard cases cannot be stacked, cannot go on seats, and cannot block the aisle — the load had to be split across vehicles.
The takeaway is the same rule as Case 1: count luggage, not just heads. 12 passengers with one large case each works out to roughly an 18-passenger load, so the correct vehicle is an 18-seat minibus or larger. A 15-seat van suits small groups with cabin-sized bags on short transfers.
Case 4 · Ten-day cross-province tour: Shipai to Fujian and Jiangxi, 38 pax
One 38-seat Yutong touring coach, ten days, departing 07:30 from a hotel in Shipai, Dongguan — Chaozhou, Dongshan Island, Zhangzhou, Meizhou Island, Longyan, Ruijin and Wuping, then back to Dongguan. RMB 1,500 per day for the vehicle and driver; fuel, tolls, parking and the driver's board paid by the client.
Two islands, two plans. Meizhou Island is reached by passenger ferry from Wenjia pier, and in peak season the pier area is traffic-controlled, so the coach waits at the Mazu City car park while the group shuttles in and crosses. Dongshan Island needs no ferry at all — the Bachi Men bridge runs onto it, and a coach uses it like any other road, with the caveat that the bridge has been closed for works before.
Long-haul pricing is two lines, not one. A multi-province trip of several days is quoted on the vehicle; running costs are settled on what is actually used. Ask for them separately and read both numbers before comparing quotes.
How to read these cases for your own trip
- Head count sets the minimum vehicle class; large luggage or equipment usually pushes you one class up.
- Pick-up and drop-off points matter: ports, metro exits, exhibition gates and station forecourts often cannot take a coach at the door. We fix the stopping point first, then the departure time.
- Allow time for immigration, walking and loading when a group carries its own bags through a border or station.
