30 People in Shanghai for Two Days: City Stops, Evening Bund, and a 04:00 Airport Run
In October 2026 a 30-person team spent two days in Shanghai: city stops by day, the Bund and the North Bund in the evening, and then, at 04:00 on the third morning, 20 of them left the North Bund hotel for Pudong International Airport. The pattern is common and the difficulty is not distance - every stop is in the city, but three or four of them fall on the same day. What decides the job is waiting time and where the coach can actually stop.

The three real problems
1. Waiting takes longer than driving, so the day cannot be priced per trip.
On the morning of 20 October the driver waited about an hour outside Jade Buddha Temple and two hours outside Yu Garden; actual driving may have been 20 minutes. A day like that has to be quoted as a full-day charter with the waiting inside it. Price it as "one trip, one fare" and the driver stands at a gate for three hours for nothing. There is a benefit for the client too: once the day is packaged, an extra stop or a group that lingers does not turn into a running meter.
2. City-centre sights have no coach bay, so the kerb has to be decided in advance.
Jade Buddha Temple sits on a narrow city street, Yu Garden is tight on both footfall and traffic control, and the Bund in the evening cannot be stopped next to at all. The method is to fix the set-down point a short walk from the sight, have the group walk in and out, and keep the driver standing by nearby. At every change of stop the group is told which exit to use and how many minutes the walk to the coach takes. Skip that and the coach circles the block while 30 people wait on the pavement.
3. On the last day 30 becomes 20 - the vehicle cannot stay as it was.
Only 20 were flying out on 21 October, and holding a 30-seat vehicle for them is waste. When a group shrinks part-way through, price the final day on its own vehicle rather than carrying the peak headcount through the booking.
What a 04:00 departure takes that a daytime transfer does not
1. The departure time comes from the flight, not from a habit.
International flights need check-in and security time, so an early-morning job is worked backwards: what time the group must be at the terminal, how much buffer the drive needs, and therefore what time the coach leaves the hotel. The client gives us a flight number; the arithmetic is ours.
2. The driver waits in the lobby, not at the kerb.
At four in the morning, with cases and maybe children, the last thing anyone wants is to hunt for a coach outside. On this job the driver arrived early and waited in the hotel lobby, so the group walked straight out and the luggage went on with them - not a coach hooting at the door at the appointed minute.
3. Twenty people's luggage has to fit the minibus.
Twenty passengers with a case each sits in our minibus band (7-27 seats). Two things get checked: enough seats, and enough hold. If the hold is short, move up to a coach - better than discovering it at the hotel door.
Groups outside Dongguan: local sourcing, our responsibility
- Dongguan and the Pearl River Delta are our own fleet: 7-55 seats, available at short notice.
- Other cities are sourced locally: in Shanghai, Beijing or Hangzhou we use a long-term partner fleet, matched to your group size and itinerary.
- The vehicles are not ours, the responsibility is: one fixed price to you, the itinerary and driver scheduling arranged by us, changes taken by us. You deal with one company - no on-the-spot surcharge from a local operator, and no relaying messages between two suppliers.
That is exactly how this Shanghai job ran: two days across the museum district, Jade Buddha Temple, Yu Garden, the Bund and the North Bund, then 20 passengers to Pudong at 04:00.
Booking the same kind of trip
- Two or three city stops in a day with waiting at each: book a full day, not individual transfers, and state the group size, the number of stops, roughly how long at each, and the finish time.
- Evening hire after 18:00: quoted as a separate block - start time, finish time, number of stops, and whether dinner waiting is included.
- Group size that changes: quote the main vehicle, then price the final day separately if numbers drop for an airport run or an early departure.
- City-centre sights: agree each set-down point and assembly time the day before; it saves half an hour of hunting on the day.
Rates outside Dongguan are built on the local fleet's cost and given as one fixed price - we do not publish a Shanghai price list. For an accurate figure, send the dates, group size and itinerary. For vehicle options on corporate receptions and transfers, see business travel charter and airport and HSR transfers.
One way, round trip, a full day or several days - all of them are quoted. The same route is priced to how the client actually travels: a single drop as a one-way, a drop and a later pick-up as a round trip (same vehicle and driver, usually less than two separate one-ways), several stops with long waits as a day charter, a multi-night stay by the day. We do not insist on one shape.
Group transport: common questions
What vehicle does a 30-person group need for three stops in one day in the city?
The coach band. Leave headroom for luggage and a guide - 33 seats is workable for 30, 38 is more comfortable; the exact vehicle is confirmed by local dispatch on the day.
The driver waits outside each stop - how is that waiting time handled?
A day like this is quoted as a full-day charter, not as individual trips. Give the start and finish time of each day and roughly how long the group stays at each stop, and put it in the contract; if a stop is added or the day runs late, tell the dispatcher in advance and the day is priced on the actual hours used.
Can a coach park at Yu Garden or Jade Buddha Temple?
Not for long, and not next to the gate. We fix the set-down and pick-up point a few minutes' walk from the sight, the group walks in and out, and the driver stands by nearby and pulls up when called.
How do you handle an evening on the Bund from 18:00 to 22:00?
The Bund is crowded in the evening with very little kerb space, so the set-down and pick-up points are fixed in advance and the group walks in. The finish time is written into the booking (22:00 in this case); if it needs to run later, say so beforehand.
On the last day only 20 people fly out - do we still book for 30?
No. Match the vehicle to the actual number and price that day separately, rather than carrying the largest group size through the whole booking.
Can you handle a 04:00 departure for an early flight?
Yes. Give us the flight number and time and we work the departure backwards from take-off, with the driver waiting in the hotel lobby to help with luggage. Early-morning jobs need to be booked ahead so the driver's time is reserved.
Do you own vehicles in Shanghai?
No. Shanghai is served by local sourcing: vehicles come from a long-term partner fleet, matched to the group size. The quotation, the itinerary, driver scheduling and any changes are handled by us, so you deal with one company.
Need vehicles for a group?
Send dates, group size, how long you stay at each stop and when the day ends. We quote groups in Guangdong and in other cities, with a vehicle and a fixed price.
